From the President...
May 24, 2010
Greetings
Fellow Alumni:
BAAC is Off
to the Races! Yes, it’s that time my friends; we are now planning
for our annual Night at the Races event at Maywood Park. Last year’s event was
such a success that we are expecting this year’s event to be even better. Our
Fundraising/Scholarship committee chairperson, Albany Devers, is once again at
the helm of this project, and I strongly encourage everyone to support the
effort if you can. The Black Alumni Advisory Council is making great strides
this year to really make the organization a true vehicle for social networking
and professional development. The Maywood Park event is August 27, 2010.
Tickets are on sale now for $30.00 each. This will include Valet parking, Food,
and one of the greatest spectacles in sports, Harness horse racing at the
storied racetrack of Maywood Park.
For more
information on the event and for ticket purchases, please contact Michelle
Hinton via email at michelle_hinton63@hotmail.com or by phone at (773) 610-4914. We need to get tickets for this event moving, so if you’re
interested in selling a few please do let us know. I do look forward to seeing
all of our black alumni at this, and other events in the coming year.
I would also
like to take a moment out to introduce all the members to the Executive
Committee Chairs for 2010-2012. Communications: Beverly Harris. Fundraising/Scholarship:
Albany Devers. Membership: Veronique Matthews. University Relations: Juanita
McCary. And BAAC Treasurer Michelle Hinton is serving as interim Chairperson of
the Programming committee. Please join me in extending a warm welcome to the
committee chairs. We truly appreciate their leadership and service to the
mission of the BAAC.
I cannot
express enough how much we value this opportunity to help the BAAC continue to
build bridges between the alumni, the students, the university, and the community
at-large. We hope that everyone will try and keep the BAAC moving along and
growing into the most proactive black alumni organization in Chicago.
Sincerely,
Christopher
Vaughn
