Sandra M. Webb-Booker, BSN '76, MS '80 NURS
Colonel, United States Army Reserves
Commander, 801st Combat Support Hospital
Colonel Sandra M. Webb-Booker is the first nurse to serve as commander of the 801st Combat Support Hospital. She provides supervision and leadership for more than 500 personnel. In her civilian life, she serves as coordinator for the Chicago Public Schools Practical Nursing Program, where she oversees the only federally accredited practical nursing program in the City of Chicago and the Pharmacology/Medical Administration program for post-graduate students. 

 

 

 


Uchenna Onwuta, MPH '97
School of Public Health Alumni Association
As chief epidemiologist of the Kane County Health Department, Uchenna Onwuta is responsible for analyzing the demographics and birth, death and disease rates of county residents, in order to address their health care needs. Since 1999, she has served as member, chair and president of the School of Public Health Alumni Board. Along with encouraging SPH alumni to join the UI Alumni Association, Onwuta has increased alumni participation in campus activities, mentored graduate and professional students in SPH and developed a strategic plan for the SPH Alumni Board.

Robert (Bob) Howard '69 CBA
President and CEO,
Boys & Girls Clubs of Chicago
In his role as president and CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Chicago (BGCC), Robert (Bob) Howard dedicates himself to ensuring that the organization lives up to its mission to help boys and girls from disadvantaged circumstances realize their potential. Under his positive leadership, the organization has improved its financial performance and revitalized its volunteer leadership. An active member of the community, Howard also donates his time to several other groups, including the UIC College of Business Alumni Association Board of Director.

 

 

 


Cynthis Barnes-Boyd '75 nurs, msn '79, phd '90 nurs
Director, UIC Great Cities Neighborhoods Initiatives; Assistant Dean, Community Health UIC College of Nursing; Robert Wood Johnson Executive Nurse Fellow

 

Dr. Cynthia Barnes-Boyd has devoted much of her nursing career to improving family and community health care in Chicago-area neighborhoods. Today, in her roles as director of the UIC Great Cities Neighborhoods Initiatives, director of the UIC Community Health Initiatives and assistant dean of the UIC College of Nursing's Community Initiatives, Barnes-Boyd oversees health, education and economic development programs that serve nearly 600,000 Chicagoans annually.

Barnes-Boyd's research focuses on social and cultural contributors to health disparities, service utilization barriers, cultural alienation and health problems of importance to racio-ethnic groups.

She shares her expertise by serving as a board member of several community health organizations, including Campus and Community Partnerships for Health, UIC School of Public Health Environmental Justice Committee, Naomi Morris Community Health Research Collaborative, and Advisory Committee for the Center for Population Health and Health Disparities.


For her research and outreach efforts, Barnes-Boyd has received both local and national recognition, including the PNLE Illinois Nurse Leader Women Health Executives Network Annual Achievement in Health Care Management; Renacer West Side Community Network Outstanding Community Commitment Award; American Academy of Pediatrics Bronze Award for Clinical Research; and Metropolitan Health Care Council Outstanding Woman Health Care Manager.

In addition, Barnes-Boyd was inducted into the Robert Wood Johnson Executive Nurse Fellows Program in 2006 and inducted as a Fellow into the American Academy of Nursing for outstanding contributions to her field in 1992.
